Gov. Gaidam Signs 2017 Budget into Law

H.E Gov. Ibrahim Gaidam has signed the 2017 Finance and Appropriation Bills passed by the State Assembly into law in a ceremony at Government House, Damaturu this afternoon.

The governor said the 2017 ‘Budget of Consolidation and Self-Reliance’ will seek to consolidate past successes of the administration in socio-economic development and infrastructural transformation.

“This budget will put emphasis on revitalizing economic activities, education and agriculture and the enhancement of healthcare delivery services. It will address infrastructure needs such as roads, water supply and electrification. It will also take decisive steps towards poverty alleviation, job creation and economic empowerment programmes”, he said.

The governor thanked members of the State Assembly for speedily passing the budget, after he first presented it to them on November 1, 2016.

He said the speedy passage of the budget by the House is a ‘clear manifestation’ that the executive and legislative branches of the Yobe State “work together harmoniously in all matters of interest to the people of the state”.

H.E Gov. Gaidam expressed confidence that with his administration’s commitment to budget realism and transparent implementation, all the projects appropriated for will be executed.

The governor also lauded President Muhammadu Buhari for giving the army and other security forces the resources and tools they needed to execute the war against Boko Haram insurgency.

“As the war against insurgency is fought and won, we shall continue to be eternally grateful to Almighty Allah for He has answered our prayers; and we shall continue to take proactive steps to provide an environment conducive for both local and international investors to come and invest in the state”, he said.

The State Assembly Speaker, Adamu Dala Dogo said the House is enamoured of the effort of the governor to move the state forward and is totally in lockstep for the benefit of the people of the state.

He said the House passed the budget in record time to enable the executive branch move forward with plans to provide and expand on social services.
